Understanding the Basics
WHAT ARE FHR, FCR AND FBR?

Diablo II runs on a frame-based engine, meaning all actions in the game are measured in frames rather than real time. The game runs at 25 frames per second, so every action a character performs - attacking, casting, blocking, recovering from a hit - takes a certain number of frames to complete.

If you are playing Diablo II: Resurrected, this still applies. While D2R renders visuals at much higher frame rates, the underlying game logic still runs on the original 25 FPS cycle. All timings, breakpoints, and frame calculations are completely identical to the original game. The smoother animations you see are simply a visual layer on top of the same old engine.

Frames and Breakpoints

Because the game works in discrete frames, you cannot smoothly reduce animation speed by any arbitrary amount. Instead, improvements only take effect at specific thresholds called breakpoints. This means that going from 0% to 5% FCR, for example, does absolutely nothing - you need to hit the exact breakpoint value to actually gain a frame. Everything between two breakpoints is wasted. This is why knowing the exact breakpoint values for your class is essential when building a character.

Faster Hit Recovery (FHR)

When a monster deals enough damage to exceed your character's stun threshold, you are interrupted and enter a hit recovery animation, a brief moment where you cannot act. Faster Hit Recovery reduces the number of frames this animation takes, meaning you get back to fighting sooner. Not every hit will stun you, but when it does, a slow recovery can get you killed, especially in Player vs Player, where enemies can chain hits to stunlock you indefinitely if your FHR is too low.

Faster Cast Rate (FCR)

Faster Cast Rate reduces the number of frames it takes to complete a casting animation, so it directly increases how fast casters can deal damage or apply effects/teleport. Some specific skills have their own separate FCR breakpoint tables.

Faster Block Rate (FBR)

When your character successfully blocks an attack, they play a block animation before they can act again. Faster Block Rate reduces the length of this animation. This stat is only relevant if you have a meaningful chance to block. If your block chance is low, investing in FBR is generally not worth it.

How to read the tables

Each table shows the minimum amount of FHR, FCR or FBR required to reach a given number of frames for that animation. Lower frames means faster response. For example, if a Sorceress has 105% FCR, she casts at 8 frames per cast instead of the base 13. That is a significant improvement. Always aim to hit a breakpoint exactly, as any stat invested below the next threshold provides no benefit.
