Well it's because you actually play against 6th/5th/4th/3rd division players.

As this game had very successful sales, EA just slightly updated the matchmaking, creating a window. In can be generalized:


DIV 10: (-1 div window): you can play against DIV10-DIV9

DIV 9: (-2 div window): vs DIV10-DIV7
DIV 8: (-2 div window): vs DIV9-DIV6
DIV 7: (-2 div window): vs DIV9-DIV5

DIV 6: (-3 div window): vs DIV8-DIV3
DIV 5: (-3 div window): vs DIV7-DIV2

DIV 4: (-2 div window): vs DIV6-DIV2
DIV 3: (-2 div window): vs DIV6-DIV1
DIV 2: (-2 div window): vs DIV5-Elite

DIV 1: (-1 div window): vs DIV1-Elite

Elite: vs DIV2-Elite

Well it's boring to play football. The higher div the repetitive the gameplay.
Same squads, two formations, garbage gameplay

If you play just to spam passes into the box to score 1 on 1 one, to get rewards with fodder every week, then craft SBCs from that fodder to have at least some players - it's not about you. You just have mental health issues. Feel free to celebrate your first goal, then pause, then deep-throat four and rage quit.
