This guide does not include the locations of hidden tokens from the three base themes or the solutions to the 12 Darkest Puzzles, as there are already thorough and well‑made guides covering that information. Tips & Information
Info: Steam Cloud
Steam Cloud in Escape Simulator 2 only syncs your general progression (tokens, trophies, settings). It does not save in‑progress rooms or photos taken inside rooms. If you switch between PCs / Steam Deck and you want to go back into a room to retrieve missing tokens, you will have to redo the room completely.Tokens - Potentially missable: Dracula’s Castle - Crypt
One token is placed on a skull. It may seem unreachable after completing the room, so it’s best to collect it before solving the final puzzle.Tokens - Hard‑to‑spot: The Lost Starship - Into the Unknown
Four tokens are visible only through the Mirror Artifact. Even after you collect them, the mirror continues to display their ghost image, this can be a little bit confusing.

Extra: Lobby Puzzles and Keys
The puzzles and keys in the lobby do not unlock any Steam achievements, but collecting them will give you access to something special.
At the bottom of the cupboard beneath the photo wall, you will find seven locks:

When you use all seven keys: You will receive a special book. Place this book on the bookshelf to reveal the secret that these keys unlock.
The secret: The secret is the 13th Darkest Room: The Temple.

At the bottom of the cupboard beneath the photo wall, you will find seven locks:
- Three locks correspond to the keys obtained by completing the tableau puzzles in the lobby.
- One lock is for the key awarded after finishing all the Darkest Puzzles.
- Three locks are linked to the red star hidden across certain rooms.
When you use all seven keys: You will receive a special book. Place this book on the bookshelf to reveal the secret that these keys unlock.
The secret: The secret is the 13th Darkest Room: The Temple.
Tableau Puzzles Keys:
By collecting all 32 tokens of a theme, you unlock its tableau in the lobby. Completing the tableau reveals a hidden puzzle (bookshelf, chessboard, or furniture stack depending on the theme). Solving the puzzle allows you to enter a six‑digit code, which grants a key.- Dracula’s Castle (Flying Books Puzzle): The tableau shows a spiral of flying books. Look at the symbol on each book. Then go to the bookshelf near the fireplace, where you will see books with the same symbols.
Hint: Follow the spiral to identify the symbols on each book. Match those symbols with the books in the lobby’s fireplace bookcase. Take the Roman numerals from them in order to form the six‑digit code.
Solution: 4-6-9-5-9-3 - The Lost Starship (Chess Puzzle): The tableau reveals a chessboard with certain pieces highlighted. Pay close attention to the color and position of each piece. In the lobby, place the pieces on the corresponding squares of the chessboard.
Hint 1: When arranged correctly, the white piece forms a shape representing the number seven, while the black piece forms a shape representing the number three.
Hint 2: Use the formula shown in the tableau’s signature (Square Root of Black * White), to calculate the final values. Enter the resulting six‑digit code to obtain the key.
Solution: 4.58257 - The Cursed Treasure (Furniture Stack Puzzle): The tableau shows a stack of furniture items (table, chair, vase, phone). Find each matching item in the lobby.
Hint: Each has a pattern that corresponds to a number. Stack them in the same order as the tableau to reveal the six‑digit code.
Solution: 5-3-6-2-7-5
Darkest Puzzles Keys:
Finishing all the Darkest Dungeons awards a special Darkest Key. This key fits the central lock in the cupboard beneath the photo wall.Red Star Keys:
Across certain rooms, you can spot tiny red stars in the sky. Zoom in and hold your view on the red dot until the message confirms collection (Clavis stellae orientalis detecta. In vestibulo eam inveni). Each star grants a Red Star Key, for a total of three.- Sweet Dreams (Dracula’s Castle): When you have access to the balcony, go around to the left side. Look up into the night sky and you’ll see a small red star. Zoom in and hold your view until the message confirms the key is collected.
- Into the Unknown (The Lost Starship): When you reach the point where you have the Mirror Artifact, use the mirror to find the symbol on the ground, then look up through the archway to the right. The red star will appear in the sky beyond the arch. Zoom in to collect the key.
- Hideout (The Cursed Treasure): Near the rope pillar section of the level, look up into the opening of the cave, close to where vines are hanging down. Spot the red star and zoom in until the key is awarded.
Extra: The Secret 13th Darkest Room - The Temple (Hints)
This Room is something special. To access it, you must first complete the Lobby puzzles and collect all the keys. The guide below is designed to offer hints first, followed by the solution. Pay close attention to the message that appears when you load the level: the puzzle demands specific knowledge that you may need to research online..., unless you are already an expert in the field of art.

I think, there are two ways to approach this puzzle.
- One way is to be a master at googling: search for a well‑known painter’s name with six letters or with the description of the painting.
- Another way is to use an LLM (like ChatGPT, Copilot, etc) and ask it to help you identify such a painter. You can create a prompt explaining that you are looking for a painter’s name with six letters, where the third letter is the same as the fifth, and the fourth letter is the same as the sixth. You can also provide the drawing on the canvas as a clue, and don’t overlook the structure on the ground connected to the canvas. For example, the painting seems to show two towers, some buildings, and at least five figures.
- The body Statues with a posture that is not straight are easier to spot.
- Legs and arms: some figures make a unique or special gesture with their limbs, which helps you recognize them quickly.
- Head position: as a final check, notice whether the figure is looking upward or downward.
Matching these distinctive features will guide you toward selecting the correct statues.
First Hint: The drawing on the wall
Pay close attention to the drawing on the wall, it looks like the sketch of a painting. This suggests that the puzzle is connected to finding a specific painting. The room contains many statues and there are several places below the canvas where the statues should be placed. On the canvas, you can see indications of where each statue should go. The challenge is to identify the correct statues with the right gestures and place them in their proper spots.Second Hint: The text below the drawing
Below each canvas, you will see some text. At first glance, it doesn’t make any sense... But in reality, it’s a cipher. The letters shown do not correspond to the correct ones. Hidden within this code is in fact the name of the painter. Your task is to find the correct letters in order to reveal the painter’s name. Sadly, the cipher differs for each painter.Third Hint: How to decode the text
Well, that is a tricky question. If you don’t have knowledge in art, it can be complicated. The easiest example you will encounter is “LNFZFZ”, a painter’s name with only six letters. From this, you can notice that the third letter is the same as the fifth, and the fourth letter is the same as the sixth.I think, there are two ways to approach this puzzle.

It can be complicated, especially at the beginning when there are many statues and you need to identify the correct ones. Pay close attention to the details:- The body Statues with a posture that is not straight are easier to spot.

Once every puzzle is completed
When all puzzles are solved, you will obtain a new trophy for your lobby showcase.
