  • The color of the number means you hit different parts of the monster.
    • White means you hit a hard monster part.
    • Yellow means you hit a soft monster part.
    • Orange means you hit a wound.
    • Blue means you hit Uth Duna's veil.
    You should usually prioritize hitting soft part or wounds to maximize damage.
  • The flattened four pointed star symbol (line) on top or bottom of number means your hit is a critical hit.
    • When your Affinity (the critical chance in Monster Hunter) is positive, the damage is increased when critical hits. When your Affinity is negative, the damage is reduced when critical hits. When your Affinity is 0, the damage can never be critical hit.
    • The symbol position and color indicates whether it's a positive or negative crit. Top is positive and bottom is negative. Pink means it's positive, Blue means it's negative.
    • There's also a very brief flashy line appears the contact point of your hit.
  • The four pins around the corner of the number means you hit a wound.
  • The broken shield symbol on the left of the number means you hit Uth Duna's veil.
  • Blue outlines around a number means the damage can't inflict elemental OR status damage due to dragonblight status effect.
