If you prefer to solve the maze yourself, this NPC located between Merry Village and the maze can give you a hint.

Chapter 2 Objective
Completing the objective will unlock the shortcut to the save location.
You can get here before Chapter 2 (by sequence breaking), but for the 'shortest path' this guide has, it will not work because you need Rabi Boots. You can still reach the objective; you just need to follow the tip the game gives you.
