Introduction

This game is a lot more action packed then the first and re-visits a ton of features and mechanics from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. As well as introducing a plethora of quality of life improvements, two amazing open world maps and a wonderful variety of characters both a part of the main cast and facilities you’ll be connecting on your journey.

Personally, I believe you should go into this game without the worry of achievement hunting especially if this is your first time experiencing DS2.

Take your time, enjoy the experience and by the time the story is complete you’ll have a lot of unlocked features and improvements that’ll make the remaining achievements incredibly easy to get.

There are 0 missable achievements and all non-story achievements can be unlocked during the post game.
Tips and Tricks

Here’s a few tips and tricks that’ll help make your experience a little more efficient, nothing spoiler worthy.

Store additional material in your DHV Magellan's private locker
  • Once you exceed the material storage, you can continue storing it in your private locker. This can be incredibly helpful for transferring and storing materials shared to you by facilities and using them later on for builds. All private storages have a limit of 500 items regardless of individual item weight.

TAKE EVERYONE’S STUFF.
  • Facilities will share more and more resources as you connect with them and increase your connection level. When they do, TAKE EVERYTHING. Summon your DHV Magellan and store up on all the materials they have to offer. This will be incredibly useful for when you need materials to improve roads and structures.

Don’t travel with cargo using the DHV Magellan
  • Any cargo carried on you, in your vehicle or stored in a personal locker whilst fast travelling in the DHV Magellan will result in you receiving no grade and fewer likes.

Abuse Quick Saves
  • Bring up your ring terminal and press △ or Y. If you think you're in imminent danger or traversing sketchy terrain, it’s better to quickly save and save yourself 10 seconds then risk dying or damaging your cargo and lose 10 minutes.

You can only increase a facility's connection level one at a time but likes are stored.
  • This is a bit of a weird quirk only present in the sequel. No matter how much you deliver in one go, you can only progress one connection level.

  • BUT, the likes are stored so if you deliver a single additional cargo it will also add up the likes carried over from your previous delivery.

  • So if you’ve got tons of cargo for a facility and you want to increase the connection level more than once, DON’T deliver all of it. Rather leave 1-4 cargos and then deliver them one by one.

  • For example if the facilities level is at 2 leave a minimum of 3 cargos, then deliver those 3 one at a time to level up using the leftover likes from your initial delivery.

  • Sorry if this is confusing, bit of an odd quirk with this game but it’s essentially done because every time you level up a facility you have a unique conversation and receive a reward. I guess in order to stop those conversations from stacking they’ve limited you to only being able to level up once per delivery.

The story includes 49 main orders and offers 16 main story episodes, with the final episode serving as post-game content that allows for continued exploration.

My First Training Session
Complete a VR Training program for the first time.

VR Training is a set of missions that offer tutorials on various game mechanics, and allow you to practice things such as combat or stealth gameplay.

These are accessed from any Private Room by selecting the VR Training option, or View/Test Weapons and then Start Training.

The two sets of programs are listed under the “Porter Fundamentals Program” and “Porter Mastery Program”.

More training programs are unlocked throughout the game, but you are only required to complete one once for this achievement.

A First Glimpse of the SSS
Read an SSS post for the first time.

Making It Your Own
Use a screenshot taken in Photo Mode to decorate your private room.

This achievement is awarded for changing the front or back wall of a private room at a Facility (not in the DHV Magellan) using a screenshot you took in Photo Mode.

Road Restorer
Restore one section of road.

This achievement is rewarded once you restore any section of a road for the first time.

In Australia, you can find Auto-Pavers spread throughout the contingent which allow you to repair the road network.

These won’t appear on your map to begin with but will appear once you get close enough to scan them with the Odradek, marking them on the map permanently.

Restoring roads require contributing Chiral Crystals, Metals and Ceramic to the Auto-Paver terminal.

Dig, Dig, Dig!
Restore three mines.

You’ll be awarded this achievement once you’ve restored any 3 mines located in Australia.

There are a total of 9 mines in the game and you’re required to restore specific mines to reopen the monorail lines.

https://www.powerpyx.com/death-stranding-2-mine-locations/

Rail Restorer
Restore and fully reopen a monorail line.

This achievement is awarded for fully restoring one of the three monorail lines located in Australia.

The monorail lines run between certain Knots and Distribution Centers, allowing you to directly transport large amounts of materials, cargo, or vehicles along with yourself between each of the stops.

Monorails are restored primarily by contributing to the Tracklayers which function in the same way as road Auto-Pavers, where you need to contribute materials to repair them and construct the section of track.

West Monorail Line

West Fort Knot (F1) > Mine North of F1 > F2 South Distribution Center > Mine near F3 Crater

East Monorail Line

South Fort Knot (F6) > Mine North of F6 > East Fort Knot (F4) > Northeastern Mine

Central Monorail Line

Terminal Fort Knot (F8) > F5 East Distribution Center > Mine North of Tar Lake

Emergency Worker
Deliver emergency support for the first time.

This achievement is awarded for completing an emergency support request for the first time.

These requests automatically appear from NPC or player structures when they are damaged by the environment, and a request appears for them to be repaired.

These display on the map as a yellow hammer icon over a structure.

You can then go to any structure with this icon and contribute Chiral Crystals or the listed repair material to fix the structure and earn the achievement.

Porters Make the World Go Round
Barter with another porter for the first time.

This achievement is earned by trading with an NPC porter for the first time.

Porters start appearing around Australia and Mexico after you complete Main Order 12 in Episode 3.

Once they do, you can find them walking around, and if you go up to them they will sometimes offer you one of the items they are carrying by holding it in front of themselves.

If they do, take it and add it to your inventory, then take an item you are carrying and drop it. Once the other Porter picks up the item you dropped, you will be awarded the achievement.
(continued)
Conqueror of the Golden CC
Defeat the golden chiral creature.

Golden chiral creatures are gold versions of the black blobs, also referred to as Rodent Chiral Creatures in-game.

You can find these in locations that have high chiral density, where there is typically tar floating out of the ground and a large number of Chiral Crystals.

Shooting the golden one from a distance causes it to spawn a large number of Chiral Crystals you can pick up, along with ordering the achievement.

There are many locations like this throughout the game where they can potentially spawn, but two early locations where you can find them frequently are near the Mine North of F1, or near the Animal Shelter.

Outside the front of the mine is an area with a bunch of tar pools, and typically a large number of Chiral Crystals. On the east of the entrance where the tar pools are, you can generally find one blob moving around.

Another location is southeast of the Animal Shelter in the area where there are a few tar pools. There are typically a few groups of the normal blobs near the pools, but also a few of the gold blobs moving around.

Compulsive Cargo Carrier
Deliver a total of 500 pieces of cargo.

This achievement is awarded for delivering a cumulative total of 500 pieces of cargo, then viewing the results screen after completing an order.

This is the longest of the three cumulative achievements to obtain, as most early orders don’t include a large number of cargo items, over the course of the game and while completing connection levels you will likely deliver near 2000 or more pieces of cargo.

Heavy Lifter
Deliver cargo weighing a total of two tons.

This achievement is awarded for delivering a cumulative cargo weight of 2 tons (2,000 kg), then viewing the results screen after completing an order.

You are very likely to earn this achievement in the first half of the story, as many sections include heavy deliveries.

Over the course of the game while completing connection level you will likely deliver near 30 tons or more of cargo.

Long-Distance Lugger
Reach a total distance traveled of 80km upon completion of an order.

This achievement is awarded for travelling a cumulative total of 80km (80,000 m), then viewing the results screen after completing an order.

The map of Australia is approximately 7km x 6km so this may seem like a lot of distance, but during orders in the story you have a lot of back and forth travelling, so you will likely travel this distance around halfway through the game or even earlier if you decide to do Standard Orders as they become available.
Side Quest Achievements
Creature Comforter
Deliver a wild animal to the Animal Shelter for the first time. (Animals required to complete orders do not count.)

To earn this achievement, you must capture an animal and return it to the Animal Shelter outside of the ones required by Main or Sub orders.

Capturing animals is unlocked with Main Order 15 at the start of Episode 4 when you reach the Animal Shelter.

After this is unlocked, you can capture other animals and take them to the Animal Shelter at any time. Animals appear throughout Australia and will show up with a blue outline when scanned with the Odradek.

Rare Specimen Rescuer
Deliver an albino animal to the Animal Shelter for the first time.

This achievement is awarded for delivering an albino animal to the Animal Shelter for the first time.

Albino animals are unique versions of the other animals that will be almost entirely white, and only exist once in the game world.

Bringing at least one of these back to the Animal Shelter to earn this achievement.

There are at least 4 albino animals in the game, with three of the locations being given to you if you complete the Aid Requests for The Pioneer.

They will ask you to bring them animal material from 3 locations, which are also the locations of the albino kangaroo, lyrebird, and echidna.

If you don’t want to complete these aid requests, the easiest to find albino animal is the kangaroo, which can be found in the desert area directly north of The Data Scientist.

Because of it being a large animal it sticks out pretty easily within the desert area.

Spring into Life
Dig a hot spring for the first time.

To dig a hot spring, you first need to reach The Motherhood facility in Episode 7.

Outside is a hot spring you can bathe in, then choose the option to put the bucket on your head.

This will take you to Heartman’s Lab where you can speak with The Hydrologist, who will add the Hot Spring Digger to the Lv2/3 PCC.

You can then use this in specific locations to dig a hot spring.

The Hydrologist marks a location west of Heartman’s Lab that you can use for the first one to earn the achievement.

Written in the Stars
Study the night sky for the first time.

To earn this achievement you must sit in a hot spring at night in an area with clear skies.

There will then be an option to “Look at the Stars” by holding L1.

You can then spot various constellations in the night sky rewarding Likes, along with the achievement.

The two easiest hot springs to do this at are the Miracle Spring (near The Motherhood) or the Healing Spring (near the Animal Shelter) as there is generally less cloud cover at these two locations.

If needed you can sleep to advance time in the DHV Magellan to advance to nighttime or change the weather.

A Private Show!
Watch a live performance in your private room.

To watch a live performance you first need the ability to listen to music in your private room, which is unlocked after you have connected The Musician to the Chiral Network during Episode 3.

You must then be in the room on the DHV Magellan (private rooms at Facilities don’t work) and play the song “Horizon Dreamer” by Daichi Miura which you obtain by linking The Musician to the network.

Once you do this, look over at Dollman sitting by the door and he should be dancing along.

Interact with him and he asks if you have a moment, to which you need to agree to see the live performance.

You can watch the whole thing if you want, or back out immediately and still unlock the achievement.

So YOU'RE the Pizza Chef!
Discover the truth about the Pizza Chef.

To discover the truth about the Pizza Chef, you must first increase their connection level past level 1 to about 80% of the way through level 2, where it will stop increasing.

Then after you have completed Main Order No. 29, you will be able to find a lost cargo item called “Pizza Chef’s Misanga”.

This item seems to appear in the MULE enemy camps in the area, either the one directly northeast of the Pizza Chef, or the one just south of the desert area to the east of The Data Scientist.

Once you have at least one of these lost cargo items, deliver it to The Pizza Chef which will cause the door behind the delivery terminal to open.

Enter the room and you will be attacked by some Ghost Mechs.

Defeat them and interact with the door at the back of the room to trigger a cutscene, after which you will earn So YOU’RE the Pizza Chef! achievement when you return to the delivery terminal.

Showdown at the Tar Lake
Defeat the Lord of the Tar Lake.

To defeat the Lord of the Tar Lake, you must first connect and increase the connection level of The Fisherman.

They are first unlocked with Sub Order 116 that is accepted from F5 East Distribution Center, then you can continue increasing their level with lost cargo or sub orders delivered to them.

The Headless Riders Unmasked
Solve the riddle of the headless riders.

To solve the riddle of the headless riders, you must first gain access to “The Ghost Hunter” optional facility.

This is first done by picking up Sub Order 109 from “The Chronobiologist“, then Sub Order 110 from “The Ghost Hunter” which becomes available after completing Sub Order 109.

Savior of Terminal Fort Knot
Prevent Terminal Fort Knot from falling victim to a voidout.

To prevent the Terminal Fort Knot Voidout, you must first connect and increase the connection level of The Ghost Hunter.

After you have connected them to the network and can make deliveries, you must increase their connection level and hit the cap at around 80% towards level 5.

The Ghost Hunter is one of the unique facilities in that they have Sub Orders that must be completed for each level, so you must first complete Sub Orders 111, 112, and 113 which allow you to progress through connection levels 2 – 4.

Once you hit the cap in level 4, you will receive an SSS message and then can go to their location to pick up Sub Order 114.

This Sub Order requires you to save Terminal Fort Knot from suffering a voidout.

The Scars Left by the Giants
Arrive at the BT nexus in the F3 crater.

This achievement is awarded for arriving at the F3 Crater for the first time, located in the direct north point of the map, north of Heartman’s Lab.

There are two ways you can go about getting to the F3 Crater, an early optional way, or a required later way.

If you want to go out there early, you can drive across the tar using the Coffin Board that is unlocked after connecting The Mechanic to the Chiral Network.

You can then ride the Coffin Board to the cliffs around the crater, and the achievement will be awarded once you reach the top of the cliff overlooking the crater.

If you want to wait until you are required to come here, you will be transported to the crater when you complete Sub Order 121, which is required to max the connection level for the facility The Adventurer.
(continued)
The Real Story of the Ghost Hunter
Reveal the truth about the Ghost Hunter.

To reveal the truth about the Ghost Hunter you must first finish the main story, which then allows you to enable and disable the Drawbridge Q-pid.

When enabled, it reduces the frequency of BTs and Ghost Mechs, but also prevents you from interacting with the Ghost Hunter facility, and you will receive an SSS post from Local Porters hinting that they can’t access the Ghost Hunter’s terminal.

With the Drawbridge Q-pid enabled, attempt to make a delivery to the Ghost Hunter facility to earn the achievement.

You can still make deliveries to the Ghost Hunter to complete the facility connection level, but you must disable the Drawbridge Q-pid in the System menu first.

BT's Best Friend
Capture a large BT for the first time.

This achievement is awarded for capturing a BT with an EX Capture Grenade for the first time.

These are unlocked automatically after completing Main Order 033 in Episode 8 of the story.

You can use these grenades on weakened “large” BTs (Catchers, Bestia) to capture them, allowing you to pick up a crystal that allows you to summon the BT to attack other BTs.

The first opportunity you can use this is on Main Order 033 immediately after you receive the grenades.

If you go straight across to the objective you’ll encounter an area where a few Bestia BTs will spawn.

Damage one of them until its health is red, then throw a grenade directly at its mouth to capture it and earn the achievement.

Make sure to pick up the crystal after to allow you to summon the BT from the Special section of the Weapons/Tools menu.

Once you capture a BT you keep the crystal forever.

Summoning it costs chiral crystals, so make sure to capture new BTs when you come across them.
Completionist Achievements
Seasoned Porter
Complete 10 deliveries, 10 recoveries, 10 elimination/destruction standard orders with an S rank in Casual difficulty or above.

Keep on Connecting
Connect all facilities using your Q-pid.

Connecting Hearts and Minds
Maximize your connection level with all facilities.

A Premier Porter
Achieve a porter grade of 40 or higher in all categories.
