Introduction

Petting a dog or carrying a cat around aren't just cute animations meant to please the player; they are actual in-game actions that serve the real purpose of building trust with the animals so you can tame them. The game teaches you how to do this around Chapter 4, but you can follow exactly what this guide teaches to get yourself a pet as soon as you reach the first town after the prologue.

In total, you can have up to 30 pets, which is a lot, but you can only walk with one at a time. It's not like Black Desert where you have a whole kennel running behind you, but the cool thing in Crimson Desert is that cats can also climb on your shoulder!!!!
1) Find a pet:

It's very easy to find several potential pets scattered around town or the outskirts, so the first step is finding one you like and want to capture.

Always remember to check the in-game clock to know when you found the pet. This is necessary because it's very hard to tame a pet in a single day, so you'll need to return the next day to continue. Also, watch out for rainy days, because it's harder to find them wandering around—especially cats, for obvious reasons.

2) How to tame:
Taming a pet is very simple. You need to reach 100 trust with it, and you can do this in two ways, for both cats and dogs:

  • Petting - Get close, aim at the animal, and the option to pet it should appear (for cats, you need to pick them up).

  • Feeding - You can feed them certain types of meat.

However, you can only perform each of these actions 5 times a day. That means you can feed the same animal 5x and pet it 5x.

To feed cats, you'll need poultry, and for dogs, it can be tough meat or similar types of meat.

Finding meat to feed them is also very simple: just buy it from the town butcher, the same one who teaches you how to cook for the first time. Then, open your inventory, find the meat, and use the "discard" item option so it drops on the ground.

If you can't fill the trust bar to 100 in one day, don't worry! Go get some sleep, or do other activities, and you can continue the next day. You can find your pet at the same spot as before, but don't panic if you go there and don't find it, it may take some time to show up, so that's why it's important to remember the hour of the day you found it first, so you can go back around the same time next day.

BUT BE CAREFUL: Nearby NPCs, especially beggars, might get interested in the meat you just dropped and steal it from your animal. So, make sure there are no potential threats nearby, including other animals that might also be interested.

GOLDEN TIP: It's more advantageous to grill the meat before giving it to your little buddy. Raw meat gives you +10 trust, while grilled meat gives you +20 trust, cutting the amount of food you need to give in half.
3) Finally, adopt!

After reaching 100 trust with your favorite pet, look at it, and the "Take in" option should appear. Once taken in, it will "disappear," but don't panic! You've just unlocked a new menu in your inventory where you can see all your pets and summon them.

Be careful not to use the "abandon" button instead of "summon" so you don't lose your pet forever.

Once summoned, they will follow you wherever you go, and rest assured, they cannot be attacked by enemies.
